At the start of the academic year, the Site Council's primary responsibility is to review, modify and approve the SPSA (Single Plan for Student Achievement) which merges the district's educational goals with issues that West in particular wants to emphasize.
The Site Council has the flexibility to drive its own agenda throughout the remainder of the school year and broach any topics that members find interesting. Site Council's biggest project this year was organizing West's first annual Screen Free Week which occurred this past week. Additionally, we had in depth conversations with the district's IT manager to aid in the development of the new district website coming online next year. We hosted conversations with HPD on school safety and emergency preparedness. In the past, we've also had specialists come to inform on Mathletics, ILab and Foreign Language. We've also had presentations from the district's Director of Educational Services and Superintendent.
Each of the nine Art-in-Action-program levels offers at least twelve sequential, age-appropriate lessons, providing a high-quality visual art curriculum. These multifaceted lessons are designed to develop students' critical-thinking skills, creative confidence, hands-on abilities, visual literacy, self-esteem, and an appreciation for diverse cultures.
If you are interested in teaching or assisting with Art in Action at West School, please contact our AiA Chair, Tim Garnett, at timgarnett@hotmail.com. All art lessons, including detailed instructions, supply lists, and lesson plans are available on the Art in Action website.
Hillsborough Television is broadcast by the Hillsborough City School District in Hillsborough, California. The district has three elementary schools (North, South, and West) and one middle school (Crocker). Through the HTV program parent volunteers collect video footage of school events. Video clips are edited and broadcast on our local access cable station - Comcast Channel 27 - and some are posted to our Vimeo Site. Click on the Collection of Channels at the top of this page to view these videos.
