Please take a moment to read the following traffic and safety rules. Please share them with anyone other than you (caregivers, nanny, grandparents) who will be driving your children to and from school.

The Hillsborough Police department will monitor and enforce parking and traffic regulations around our school. They work with us to ensure the safety of our children, and we are very fortunate to have their support.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE HILLSBOROUGH PD WILL ISSUE TICKETS IF YOU DO NOT ADHERE TO THESE TRAFFIC & SAFETY RULES.

THERE IS NO SUPERVISION AT WEST SCHOOL BEFORE 8:10 AM. Please do not drop off children before this time.

THERE IS NO SUPERVISION AT WEST SCHOOL AFTER 3:20 PM. Please pick up your children before this time.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN IN THE LANE CLOSEST TO THE SCHOOL. THE OUTER LANE IS FOR PARKING AND EXITING THE SCHOOL ONLY.

AT THE DROP OFF & PICKUP, PLEASE MAKE SURE CHILDREN EXIT THE CAR FROM RIGHT SIDE ONLY.

Make sure all backpacks are quickly accessible and not in the trunk.

Make sure your children are secure in their seat belts prior to driving away during pick up.

It is important to complete the pick up as quickly as possible, but the safety of your children takes priority.

THERE IS NO LEFT TURN EXITING THE SCHOOL DURING THE TIMES POSTED (during drop-off and pick-up). YOU MUST TURN RIGHT TOWARDS HAYNE.

PLEASE, PLEASE SLOW DOWN! The speed limit on Barbara Way is 25 MPH, but as you get closer to the school you will still need to be aware of children crossing the street and stepping out of their cars. 

PLEASE NOTE THE RED ZONES AND LOCATIONS OF THE NO PARKING SIGNS ON BARBARA WAY. CONES ARE PLACED ALONG BARBARA WAY NEAR HAYNE TO REMIND YOU OF THE NO PARKING SIGNS. They are there to keep you and your children safe, to minimize accidents, and to improve traffic flow. More importantly, they are designed to allow pedestrian access. 

DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE TRASH STORAGE.

DO NOT DOUBLE PARK AT ANY TIME.

Do not park on Barbara facing oncoming traffic.

Those of you who may be new to the area, please know that if you are using the roundabout on Hayne Road, between Black Mountain and Barbara Way, the driver already in the circle has the right of way. If you are entering the circle, from Hayne or Darrell, please yield.

THERE IS NO PARKING IN THE TEACHER AND STAFF PARKING AREA ON THE RIGHT SIDE AS YOU ENTER THE SCHOOL DURING TRAFFIC DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP TIMES. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER OR DOUBLE PARK IN THIS AREA. Children and parents use the walkway in front of this lot.

PARKING IN THE PRIMARY YARD AREA IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE IN THE AFTERNOON AFTER 2:45 PM.  Please remember that many classes have their afternoon recess until 2:45 in the primary yard area and it is unsafe for any cars to enter while kids are playing. The gate will be open only for pick up after school. It will be locked in the morning for the safety of our kids.

If you plan to use the drive-thru to pick up your children after school, please plan your arrival a few minutes after the children are dismissed. It takes them a few minutes to get to the front of the school.

Do not line up in front of the Teacher/Staff parking area. Drivers behind you on Barbara think you are in line for pick-up.

Remember, if you are first in line for pick-up after school and your child is not there, you will be asked to drive around and get back in line. A simple way to avoid this inconvenience is to arrive a few extra minutes after dismissal time.
